Supporting your child's reading

Here is a link to some question stems that can be used to support your child's comprehension. These question stems can be used for any book that your child is reading.

Books my child can use

The books we have been reading in class are:

The Wizard of Oz - Frank Baum

Boy: Tales of Childhood - Roald Dahl

Reading in class

We have a shared class novel in class which we read as part of our English lessons to support our learning. We have currently studied classic texts (The Wizard of Oz) and biographies (Boy: Tales of Childhood).

With both books, we have used our comprehension skills to find out about atmosphere and characters thoughts and feelings.

We also use the books to revisit grammar and punctuation knowledge, identifying what we have learned in the text and thinking about why the author has used it.

We also read a variety of books as part of foundation subjects to spark an interest or give contextual knowledge.
