In this session we learnt how breathing is important for our mind. It can help to relieve us from anxiety. Thinking about the wonderful things in our life that we are grateful for can help to calm us too.
We learnt to do Birthday cake breathing. This is where you take a long slow blow out.
We also learnt to do the 5-finger breathing technique to calm us. Trace around the fingers on one hand. On the way up, breathe in and on the way down your finger breathe out.
We talked about what we are grateful for linking this to the word gratitude
“I am grateful for school” - Bobby
”I am grateful that I am safe with my family because some people aren’t” - Yahya
”I am grateful for my brother and my sister” - Aisha
"These sessions taught us to work together as a team. It highlighted the importance of everyone's role." Harriet
"I didn't think I would be able to do it, but I just believed in myself."
Navyaan
"It's good to have a challenge." Mya
“We had to listen to each other and have resilience to not give up even if we thought other teams were doing better” - Harry
”Resilience means not giving up” - Joel
These sessions were about building our confidence.
We learnt to communicate with others just using eye contact. We also learnt to be brave, trust each other in the improvisation activity and just have a go.
We had to have confidence in each other to throw the bear at them when we were playing catch.
“We weren’t allowed to talk or communicate, we just had to have eye contact with one another” - Franklin
We had to work as teams to create freeze frames of different scenarios.
This session was learning about how our brains work. We named the different parts and discussed that our Amygdala controls our fight or flight response. We know that all of our memories are stored in our brains and these can be triggered when we experience something new.
