Bikeability Year 6 2023

Year 6 Bikeability

Children in Year 6 enjoyed two days of learning how to ride a pedal cycle safely. Level 1 training took part on the school playground where children were shown how to check their bikes for safety prior to learning basic skills of riding. If they demonstrated safety and compentence the children were allowed onto the streets to learn how to ride safely in modest traffic conditions under the watchful eyes of trained intructors.

One child said, "I learnt to do the ABCD check which is air, brakes, chain and drop to ebsure my bike is safe." She went on, "I learnt the 5 Ls, which is levers, lean, leg ready, look and launch."

Another child stated, "I learnt how to ride properly for the first time on the road. It was a fun experience and now I am more confident on my bike."

A third child explained, "Before bikeability I did not know how to ride a bike on the road. Now I know how to communicate on the roads, like using eye contact. I know when I have priority. I know the difference between primary and secondary position. It was great fun."

All children who took part were awarded certificates for their efforts.
