How & why do Christians read the Bible?

Teams:

To start of this unit, in small groups within our table we answered two starter questions:

  • What do we already know about the Bible?
  • What else would you like to find out about the Bible?

We answered these together to share our knowledge before we began.

Real Life:

We looked at current Bibles that we would see in school. We thought about if we liked the title of the Bible or not and why, who we thought the Bible was aimed at whether it was young readers or older readers and also if we liked the front cover of it and if it was appealing enough.

We had Reverend Pauline from church come in and talk to us about her job and what she does in her daily life. We created questions for her before she came linking with our unit. We had questions like:

  • What is your favourite Bible story and why?
  • How many Bible’s do you have and do you have a favourite?
  • Did you have learn the Bible because of your job?

Choices:

To look deeper at what the Bible is and to understand how the Bible is a library of different books, we visualised this as a miniature bookshelf with the books organised into different genres. We then used our school Bible’s to find examples from the different books by writing down the first sentence from a chapter. We had a choice of what book from each genre we wanted to look at.
