In addition to the Year 1 and Reception knowledge, they have been taught to always look for a 'safer place' to cross such as a school crossing patrol, zebra crossing, pelican crossing, traffic island and that whenever possible they should cross away from parked cars.
They know that before crossing, they should always wait for the Green man to show when available and to wait for traffic to stop completely before they cross and to keep looking and listening the entire time they are on the road.
They can also now recognise the signals that cars give – indicators, break lights, reverse lights to help them think about where a car might be going.
