This term we will be very busy.
We are finding out about why Jesus is a friend to everyone and exploring the symbols of Easter in Religious Education. In art we are critiquing Modigliani's portraits and designing our own portraits in his style. History lessons will be focused on the impact of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole's work on nursing. Over Easter we will be making Easter baskets and considering how to strengthen paper by folding or rolling. PSHE will be centered around knowing how to remain safe around medicines, where they should be kept and how medicines should be taken.
In Spring half term 2 we are focusing our learning on Easter, Easter symbols and emotions. We are sequencing the Easter story starting with Palm Sunday, The Last Supper, The Crucifixion and finally learning about the resurrection. We have studied the symbolism of a lifeboat and looked at it's connection to Jesus. Our Godly Play this half term has a theme of rescue and salvation with elements of Spring and new life. We have learned about the history and importance of the Paschal candle and designed our own.
In Spring half term 1 we have been learning about Jesus, a friend to everyone.
We have shared the stories of Blind Bartimaeus, The Ten Lepers and The Paralysed Man. We then looked at the values which Jesus demonstrated and considered how we could deliver those ourselves. We decided to continue our fundraising for World Vision to 'sponsor a child' which demonstrates our compassion.
In Autumn 2nd half term we have been learning about God's messengers, the Angels. We have thought about their job and how it feels to pass on Good News to others. We have shared in Mary's joy at receiving her message from Angel Gabriel that she would become the Mother to God's son, Jesus. We explored the feelings of the Shepherds when they received their news of Jesus' birth too.
