Spring Update

Welcome back and a happy new year to you all. Mrs. Parnell and myself are looking forward to our new theme for the the Spring term. I will continue to be in class every morning and on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Mrs. Parnell will cover the remaining afternoons.

We will continue to group children for maths. From this term children will be staying in their own year groups for comprehension, this will staff to tailor comprehension around our themes being taught.Tuesdays we will  continue to attend swimming in the afternoons. During this term the swimming may cease for some children for a few weeks, whilst competitions take place. Once these inter-school competitions are completed we will resume whole class swimming. I will update you as and when I get confirmation of dates.

Prior to breaking we spent time with your child discussing our next theme, which will be 'Rivers and Rainforests'.  Mrs. Parnell will be teaching the thematic part of this topic throughout the afternoons. I will concentrate on linking the Rivers and Rainforests within our Literacy. Your child will be studying the book 'The Great Kapok tree' and also  the classic 'Swallows and Amazons' over the term. We are currently actively looking at the options of several education visits, more information will follow in due course.

We will be posting additional work on the website based on investigating Rivers and Rainforest, which your child may be interested in.

Homework will be:

Monday  -  reading / maths

Tuesday -  reading /Comprehension

Wednesday - Big talk / reading (at times there will be no Big talk at home, due to assessments)

Thursday - reading/spellings

Friday - reading/ spelling

maths and comprehension homework need to be back in school by Monday. Spellings need to be used in writing and discussions. Your child will not have a set spelling day test, but they will happen throughout the course of the week.

In the meantime, we are both looking forward to working with you again and if you have any worries or concerns about your child, please feel free to contact myself or Mrs. Parnell, through Dojo, or via the office.

Kind regards

Mrs. Parkinson and Mrs. Parnell
