We were given the task of creating a mystical creature. We had to make up a name for it by blending together the syllables of two different animals. This linked with elements of grammar and writing because we had to consider verbs and adverbs. 

 

"This activity gave me the opportunity to chose my own ideas for learning. I got to learn about new instruments that I hadn't played before." - Elspeth

We chose to learn about the history of fashion. We researched an item of clothing of our own choice. Over the years that have been a lot of rules and variety of ways to wear clothing. Once we'd decided on our item, we decided upon the materials we wanted to use and then we used a range of techniques to bring our designs to life. 

 

"This was a fantastic topic! I liked making the pompoms. I showed everyone else how to make them too. I think it is good that we get to choose. We all had to make something but what we made and what we used to make it was up to us." - Dayna

Each half term we have the opportunity to undertake an activity that enhances our learning and broadens our horizons. Sometimes the skills link with other curriculum areas, but sometimes they are skills that will help us in every day life. 

 

In Autumn we had the opportunity to choose Art or British Sign Language. During the Spring term year 5 and 6 had the chance to participate in either drama or handball with a student from UCLAN.
