States of matter

During this term's science topic, we have been looking at States of matter, in particular Solids, liquids and gases.

The children have been looking at the differences in each of these, and how they change when heat is added or taken away. They have observed the changes to a block of ice when left at room temperature or placed near heat, and compared the volume of water before and after it is frozen to make ice.

Using our hands and thermometers, we have been calculating the temperatures of various objects both in and out of the classroom.  The children have had to consider varying factors which could alter the temperatures of such items, especially ambient temperature and changes in weather.

We have also, covered changes in gases relating to condensation and evaporation.  This will lead on into our next topic, 'Lakes and Rivers' next term.
