During our dinosaur topic the children went outside after seeing a short video clip of a dinosaur on the school grounds, they discovered different features of the natural environment and what they imagined was a dinosaur egg. We watched it hatch! The children worked together to create a nest if the dinosaur visits the school grounds again. This inspired the children to write in their doodle books about the experience. They also enjoyed creating masks, models, playing with dinosaurs in the small world, measuring these and categorising them by what they eat.

The children have shown an interest in the moon and space after some visited the Harris museum exhibition. Because of this we have developed our small world area, with space rockets and space men, we have a variety of books available about space and have shared a class story – whatever next. The children have role played this with a story sack, developing their imaginations and knowledge and understanding of the world.
