We have been reading Treasure Island as our class book this term. We have chosen this story as it links with our pirate theme and has worked to support the children developing their own pirate adventure stories. The children have been focusing on characterisation, and how they can show characterisation through what a character might; do, say or how they act and how a character can show how they are feeling or what they are thinking. The children have been working to apply this in their writing.
A focus for the children when writing, is to punctuate direct speech appropriately and use synonyms for 'said to up-level their writing. Children are also being encouraged to write using complex sentences and use paragraphs to organise their writing appropriately.
