Chocolate

We began our topic by finding out 'Where in the World' places such as the Equator, the Tropics, the hemispheres and different countries were. Could the children pinpoint where the Maya lived originally? Of course they could!

As we continued with our choccy topic, we looked at whether the climate affected how the Maya lived, worked and ate. The Maya loved their chocolate, so we found out what the climate needed to be like in order to grow the beans. Later on in the topic, we'll have to sample some! (oh what a shame!)

Now we began to delve deeper. The Maya aren't around anymore (although there will probably be descendants), so what made them disappear? We all worked together to try and fathom out what is was. Was it drought? War? Who knows? We will continue to investigate further.

On Friday, 2nd Nov, we finally re-enacted our Spanish v Maya 'war'.

After dressing up in suitable attire, we ventured out onto the battlefield (well, the field, anyway) and took on the personas of those ancient people.

It was rough. It was messy. It was FAB!

Have a look at the videos and pics and see for yourself what we did.

As part of our optional homework, one of our children made some fantastic choccies. She said, " My inspiration for this chocolate was 'Yin and 'Yang' because I went to a festival and thought it would make some good choccy and would fit our topic really well.

It was delicious!
