Autumn Update

Welcome back to Year Four. Mrs. Parnell and myself are looking forward to working with you and your child over the coming year. I will be in class every morning and on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Mrs. Parnell will cover the remaining afternoons.

We will continue to group children for maths and comprehension and your child may be taught in the year group above. Tuesdays we will be swimming in the afternoons and this will be throughout the year.

Prior to breaking I spent a day with your children and we discussed the curriculum for the new year. The children had a variety of topics that they wanted to learn about over the course of the year. Mrs. Parnell and myself have decided to start with the theme of the Victorians. Mrs. Parnell will be teaching the thematic part of this topic throughout the afternoons. I will concentrate on linking the Victorians within our Literacy. Your child will be studying the book 'The Street Child' over the first half term. We are intending taking the class to visit Quarry Bank Mill and this will help deepen their understanding of life in Victorian times.

We will be posting additional work on the website based on investigating the Victorians, which your child may be interested in.

Homework will be:

Monday  -  reading

Tuesday -  reading

Wednesday - Big talk /comprehension

Thursday - reading/spellings

Friday - Maths

maths and comprehension homework need to be back in school by Monday. Spellings need to be used in writing and discussions. Your child will not have a set spelling day test, but they will happen throughout the course of the week.

In the meantime, we are both looking forward to working with you and if you have any worries or concerns about your child, please feel free to contact myself or Mrs. Parnell, through Dojo, or via the office.

Kind regards

Mrs. Parkinson and Mrs. Parnell
